Many old wood sports hall floors have not been sanded and sealed or refurbished for many years and have either a very worn seal (or no seal at all) resulting in the wood wearing and getting ingrained dirt and turning a dirty black colour. Or some sports hall floors are sealed but not sanded so they have had several coats of oil based seal applied over the years which have "yellowed" with sunlight giving a dirty brown appearance. As more coats of seal are applied some areas can delaminate leaving sharp edges. The results are your sports hall floor may be lacking in grip, beginning to splinter or suffering damage to the structure, and looking poor.

Sanding and sealing your sports hall floor as part of a full refurbish can make your sports hall floor look as good as new but at a fraction of the cost, and with less waste of natural resources. In most cases there will be an excellent quality timber sports hall floor which can be refurbished by sanding and sealing.

We sand and seal wood sports hall floors to provide an excellent surface with good grip and an as new look (provided there are no deep indentations which cannot be sanded out). We sand all sports hall floors with belt sanders (not drum sanders) to give a high quality smooth surface and finish with buffers. We have specialist extraction systems to leave minimal dust for a cleaner area and smoother end result and to eliminate time spent cleaning after. We seal sports hall floors using seals that have been tested to exceed the requirements of BS7044 for providing a surface with the required grip.

Keep your School Sports Hall Floor Looking Great

Floor coverings and markings require regular maintenance and not just a daily sweep and weekly machine scrub from the school caretaker. Every year or so it’ll require a bit more love and care to keep the lines and court markings visible. After all, if you’re playing an inter-school championship you don’t want it to be impossible for the referee to know whether the balls gone out of play. Netball is one school game that is played in nearly every school in the UK. Although netball can be played outdoors, on grass courts, tarmac or artificial surfaces, if it’s played indoors in the school sports hall then it’s probably a wood or Granwood floor that needs special attention.

Netball Court Layout – School Sports Hall Floor Renovations

Netball lines on a school sports hall floor are some of the simplest to mark out but there are some very strict guidelines from the Official Netball Rules. The red lines must be a certain width whether they are painted directly onto the court or laid out using specialist tape. The length of a standard netball court is 30.5m, and the width is 15.25m. At either end of the court there’s a semi circular goal area, and the court is divided by red lines, that are 50mm wide, into three equally distanced sections. The centre circle is small at just 0.9m diameter. The normal colour for netball court markings is red but if other markings conflict then any colour but yellow, can be used.

Wood & Granwood Flooring

In keeping with tradition and the official rules of the game, a school sports hall floor, marked out for netball games is made from wood and Granwood flooring. The wood is hardwearing and durable perfect for a match. Old and tatty lines can be completely removed and redone once the floor has been sanded. For durable netball courts keep the wood flooring and white lines looking pristine and sharp for perfect performance.
